In 1998 Marlene Guttman entered the supplemental insurance industry after running her family’s 50-year business in Cincinnati. With an understanding of employers’ benefit needs, this transition was a natural next step. Representing Aflac Insurance for 18 years as a sales leader, trainer, and manager; she felt a change was imminent in 2010 when Health Care Reform was enacted. Representing multiple supplemental insurance carriers, Marlene could best serve the needs of her clients and prospective ones. By 2014 with dramatic growth in sales and service, Michael Wolkoff joined the team as Vice President to what would ultimately become Workplace Benefit Solutions located in Sharonville, Ohio.

After graduation from the University of Cincinnati in 2004, Michael Wolkoff entered the business world. In his management experience he found that employee productivity was affected when faced with accident or illness and not having the means to pay for out-of-pocket costs not covered by health insurance. It was this experience that led to the perfect fit to join Marlene in 2014. As out-of-pocket costs continue to escalate, he understands that supplemental benefits provide the solution not only for employees but equally for employers to attract and retain quality employees.

With his interest in technology Michael felt that to best serve our clients and prospective ones, enrollment processes needed to be streamlined to best serve the needs of employers and their employees. Michael’s drive to find a solution resulted in WBS’ acquisition of an online enrollment platform that not only allows employees to enroll in benefits on their own time with agent assistance available if needed, but also affords employers the opportunity to utilize a highly comprehensive HRIS platform.
